Definitely guzzle-worthy news coming out of Arkansas. The state became the 36th in the union to do away with idiotic (and clearly unconstitutional) blue laws that had previously prevented the sale of liquor on Sundays and the limiting of sales in restaurants on Sundays. Why Sunday? Because that's the day of worship...church meet state.
The Ozarks are well represented in the utterly fascinating history of moonshining in the US.

And the history of moonshining in the country is a thoroughly under-appreciated story of freedom fighters, patriots, and the true American spirit. To understand why prohibition will not ever work in this country I highly recommend the history channel show on Hillbillies.
that's pretty funny... my boyfriend lives in CT and they still have the Blue laws that prevent the sale of liquor on Sundays... It's an absolute hassle. Glad to see that several states are doing away with this... Hopefully CT is next!
ReplyDeleteCT is official one of 3 states left. Blue Laws are left in Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, Minnesota and Texas.
